Description:

On Monday, the Maelys Lome II, a cargo-laden ship, capsized at the Varreux dock in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Seven individuals were killed and seventeen injured in the tragedy. A vehicle maneuvered in the hold during loading, throwing the ship off balance. Typically, the 2,401-ton ship, which was constructed in 1970, carried cargo between Gran Sud and Port-au-Prince. When the disaster occurred, 34 trucks were on board. The terminal promised that international operations would not be impacted despite the temporary suspension of transport operations.
