Description:

The Mundomarino, Argentina's largest aquarium, has a 35-year-old orca named Kshamenk in its tank in a devastating video. The time-lapse video showed the sea creature, known as the world's loneliest orca, standing still for 24 hours with his face turned to the gate of his enclosure, perhaps pleading for his release. Kshamenk, who was captured and transported to the Mundomarino in 1992, resides in a concrete tank with little space. Kshamenk lived in utter seclusion for the remainder of his life following the death of his fellow prisoner in 2000. An NGO called UrgentSeas, which opposes marine confinement, pushed for Kshamenk's release and transfer to an orca refuge.
