On April 20, hundreds of people gathered in the Indian state of Karnátaka to participate in Thootedhara, also known as the Agni Keli rite. This occasion falls during the eighth day of the Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari temple's yearly celebration. Devotees from the villages of Attur and Kodethoor toss dry, blazing palm fronds at one another in a symbolic battle. This age-old ceremony honors the goddess Durga's triumph over demons.
