While speaking with his mother-in-law, 57-year-old municipal councilor Marcos de Araujo was shot and killed outside his Brazilian house. De Araujo was shot nine times and declared dead at the spot after two attackers opened fire on him multiple times. Marina Maia, his mother-in-law, was also hurt and sent to the hospital. On Friday morning, the assailants were still at large after fleeing on motorbikes. In October, Marcos de Araujo, who served as head of the town's chamber of commerce, was elected to a fourth term on the Tabuleiro do Norte town council.
