Description:

The Telegraph's English correspondents paid a colorful homage to French soldier Hubert Rocherea during World War I. His parents were eager to keep his bedroom as he had left it when he vanished on the battlefield in Belgium in 1918. They put a stipulation in the sales contract that forbade the new owners from making any changes to the property, even after they had already sold it. It was surprising to learn that this provision also required the bedroom to be in its original condition for 500 years! This is a heartbreaking and poignant story. Bravo to the proprietors who honored this French soldier's memory.
