The greatest rains in 1,000 years fell on areas of China a few hours ago. In only one hour on Tuesday, Zhengzhou in Henan province received more than 20 centimeters of rain. In contrast, the worst-affected regions of Germany got 18.2 cm of rain in three days during the most recent floods in Europe. At least 12 people lost their lives in the floods, and 100,000 had to leave their homes, according to China's Xinhua news agency. Videos and images from the area depict commuters stranded on a subway train up to their necks in water, passersby washed away, and torrents of water streaming down the streets.
