Description:

To find out how much sugar was in a fizzy beverage that was offered in the school cafeteria, an Australian science teacher carried out an experiment. Jacob Strickling, a teacher from New South Wales, showed that a 600ml bottle of soda had 50 grams of sugar in it. The soda was set on fire for two hours in order to quantify the amount of sugar. There was still some carbonized sugar at the bottom of the beaker that could be weighed after the liquid had totally evaporated.
