In Thailand, a tanker undergoing maintenance catches fire and blows up
Description:
One verified death and four injuries were caused by an explosion and fire that happened aboard an oil tanker that was docked for repair on the Mae Klong river in Muang district. Unverified reports indicate a second death has been discovered, and seven individuals remain missing. About ten employees were on board the ship and thirty were on the dockyard when the explosion happened during welding. While docked for maintenance, the tanker still had 20,000 liters of diesel and 25,000 liters of fuel oil, according to the governor. The Department of Labor Protection and Welfare will interrogate the employer to find out whether there were any Occupational Health Safety Act violations, while the Marine Department is looking into what caused the fire.
