There was a surprising incident during the Vuelta in Guatemala. Gerson Toc, the overall champion, and his crew were involved in a catastrophic accident shortly before the tenth and final stage's finish line. Four of the five bikers fell after the riders, who were clutching each other by the arms, lost their balance while celebrating their triumph. Luckily, Toc won the race by sliding to the finish line. His largest victory to date puts him ahead of his Ecuadorian adversary, Byron Guamá, by 1:42.
