The guards in control that day will not stand prosecution for the death caused by their refusal to wear the mask
Description:
A new court ruling means that the accusations against two Toronto hospital security guards in the death of Stephanie Warriner will never be tried by a jury. Warriner was admitted to the hospital after catching COVID-19, but according to her sister Denise Warriner, her sister had tested negative for the virus and was still coughing and having trouble breathing because of a lung condition that she already had. The security guards are seen slamming Warriner against the wall in the video footage of their dispute, and only a few seconds later, the guards wheel her away before she disappears from view. It's unclear what transpired between Stephanie Warriner being seen in a wheelchair and the camera turning. When Rojas-Silva saw that Warriner was unresponsive and seemed to have no pulse, a code blue was called. 16 days later, Warriner passed away. Later, the security officers were accused of causing death by criminal negligence and manslaughter. However, because there was no admissible evidence to back up the conclusions required to make an order of committal on any charge, the case was quashed. In reaction to the event, the University Hospital Network extended the security guard training by 12 hours.
