Description:

After sharing a video of themselves dancing on Instagram, two adolescent girls in Tehran were taken into custody. The Unknown Martyrs Monument, which honors the dead of the Iran-Iraq conflict, was the backdrop for the scenario. The young ladies' Instagram accounts were disabled because the authorities thought their attire was unacceptable. Iran has prohibited public dancing since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, a violation punishable by up to 99 lashes. Iranian law is harsh on these offenses against modesty, but their future is still up in the air.
