In Maracanú, Ceará, Brazil, José de Melo, 29, sadly died after falling off a jet ski on Lake Jaçanaú. De Melo, who was drunk and unable to swim, was a passenger behind his 35-year-old buddy Evanebio Barros, who was doing acrobatics. Without life jackets, they plunged into the sea. Fearing for his life, Barros had to return to shore after attempting to save de Melo. The emergency services retrieved De Melos' body. Authorities questioned Barros, who did not have a license to operate the jet ski.
