The head of police in St. Petersburg declared that he had fired a police officer who had tasered an elderly beggar in a wheelchair four times in the previous year. The incident happened on June 21, 2021, when the owner of a gas station reported about Timothy Grant, 64, panhandling there, prompting Officer Matthew Cavinder and his colleague to respond. Officers tried to arrest Grant after discovering he had five outstanding warrants when they arrived. Sitting in a wheelchair, the old guy refused to put his hands behind his back. Cavinder then produced his Taser and zapped Grant four times to get him to cooperate, according to body camera footage. Police Chief Holloway stated on Thursday that he has seen the video over 20 times and is still unable to justify the officer's Taser deployment.
