Description:

On Sunday, some 50,000 spectators flocked to Oahus Waimea Bay to see The Eddie, the first large wave surfing competition in history. With waves as high as fifty feet and a strong northwest swell, the conditions were favorable. However, as the waves became larger, they put onlookers in danger and necessitated many rescues, including one in which a baby was washed beneath a home.
